Mahesh Bhatt has been very vocal about his struggles with alcohol, and in a recent chat on the talk show The Invincibles, host Arbaaz Khan recalled an incident when Mahesh was so drunk that he forgot where he lived. Mahesh was at the Khan residence with Salim Khan, when Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan were assigned the task of dropping him home.

Arbaaz recalled, “You were so drunk and dad said he has to go home. Dad said, you guys have to drop him home so we tried to take you in a cab, Salman and me, and you forgot where you lived and we were actually embarrassed also, and kind of giggling also.”

Mahesh and Salim first worked together in the 1986 film Naam. This was Salim Khan’s first big hit after his separation from longtime writing partner Javed Akhtar. The film starred Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav in lead roles.

Arbaaz then applauded how Mahesh quit drinking a few years later. Mahesh shared the “miracle” of his daughter Shaheen’s birth led him to quit drinking altogether. “My first baby from Soni was born, Shaheen. And when I came to the hospital and they gave me the baby to hold. I was holding Shaheen in my arms and I went to kiss her and I got this feeling that… as if she moved away. She couldn’t bear the stench, the fumes of alcohol. She could not have done that, she was a baby but this is what I hallucinated, I projected, that did it. I said I can’t deal with this rejection,” he recalled. Bhatt concluded, “Since that day and now, I have not touched a drop of alcohol. 36 years, not one drop.”
