Actor Sunny Deol has revealed he was dyslexic as a child and that finds roots in why he would be nervous for public speeches, as he would have to “read” from a teleprompter, which was a task.

Sunny, in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, said he would also often get “slapped” for not scoring well in studies, but no one really knew what dyslexia event meant back then.

“I was dyslexic as a child. Back then, we didn’t even know what that meant! Thappad padte the, duffer hai, padhai nahi aati (I would get slapped, called duffer for not being able to study). Even now when it comes to reading, sometimes the words seem all jumbled up. Often people say to use a teleprompter (at public gathering) but I refuse! I am like, ‘You tell me what to say, I will try to say it.'”

The actor recalled, that though being dyslexic was one aspect of his personality, he also had a “very high” IQ. “Me being dyslexic never came up in conversation over the years. But it used to get difficult, initially I would feel (nervous) to speak. Now, with age may be, I feel I have opened up more. But back in the day whenever someone would hand over the microphone to me, I would wonder, ‘Now what do I say?'”

Sunny Deol said, “Uss waqt… mera IQ bahut high tha (I had a very high IQ). School mein unhone mujhe test kiya. My IQ was over 160.”

Sunny Deol is currently seen in Gadar 2. The Anil Sharma directorial, sequel to the blockbuster 2001 film Gadar, has emerged as one of the biggest hits of all time. At Rs 465 crore, the film is now aiming to enter the Rs 500 crore club and will then fight to challenge the collections of Pathaan, which remains the highest grossing Hindi film at Rs 524 crore.
