Sunny Deol says he doesn’t understand why people drink alcohol: ‘It’s so bitter, smells so bad’

Sunny Deol, a teetotaler, shared that he tried consuming alcohol in his younger days but did not understand the hype around it.

Actor Sunny Deol, who is celebrating the success of Gadar 2, has been a teetotaler for many years now and in a recent interview, the actor spoke about the time when he tried alcohol but did not enjoy it at all. He shared that he was much younger when he tried it in London and did not understand the hype.

In an interview with Mashable India, while promoting his son Rajveer’s debut film Dono, Sunny shared what he thinks about alcohol consumption. “Ye nahi ki maine try nahi kiya… Jab main England gaya tha to maine try kia tha to be part of the society but daaru ka mujhe samajh hi nahi aaya ki itni kadvi, upar se smell itni gandi hai, upar se sar dukhta hai, toh kyun peete hain? Ye koi matab nahi hai, isiliye I never did that. (It’s not that I didn’t try. When I went to England, I tried to be part of the society but I never understood it. It’s so bitter, such bad smell, and gives you a headache, so why drink it?)”

Rajveer, Sunny’s younger son Rajveer shared an incident when he had just one beer but Sunny thought that his son had come home drunk. “The first time Dad got a hint was when I had had only one beer. Dad was sleeping and I was walking to pick up something because I left my charger next to his bed and I tripped on his charger and he thought I was drunk. He could smell that one beer on my breath and after that, they…” Rajveer said as he trailed off laughing.

When asked if Sunny remembered the incident, the actor who is the son of veteran superstar Dharmendra, spoke about discipline in his family. “I didn’t know when both my sons started drinking. This has been the case in my house always. My father didn’t know many things about me. Like this, the children stay a little disciplined. A child will do what he has to do,” said Sunny, whose recent film Gadar 2 broke several box office records. The actor added, “I come from such a strict family but I did whatever I had to do but I never liked alcohol.”

Sunny will next be seen in Aamir Khan’s production Lahore 1947. The film will be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The announcement was made by the official Instagram handle of Aamir’s production house.
