Actor Shahid Kapoor thanked Telugu star Vijay Devarakonda for Arjun Reddy at the Amazon Prime Video slate announcement event in Mumbai on Tuesday. He said that if it weren’t for the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, he wouldn’t have gotten the biggest solo hit of his career, its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh. Both films were directed by Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Shahid, who was hosting a segment at the event, welcomed Vijay on stage. Shahid kissed him on the cheek and expressed his gratitude. Their bromance was the highlight of the day-long event. Watch the exchange here:

Shahid rested his head on Vijay’s shoulders and said, “I have to give him a lot of love. Naa Arjun Reddy bani hoti, naa Kabir Singh paida hota (If Arjun Reddy hadn’t been made then Kabir Singh would not be born). Thank you, Vijay!”

Kabir Singh was the official Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy (2017). While Arjun Reddy was a big hit, Kabir Singh went on to become an even bigger blockbuster. According to Bollywood Hungama, the Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer grossed Rs 379.02 at the worldwide box office in 2019. The film attracted significant controversy upon release, mainly in relation to its depiction of toxic masculinity.

On the work front, while Vijay will be seen in Family Superstar, Shahid will be seen in Ashwatthama – The Saga Continues, which was also announced at the same event. The movie will be directed by Sachin B Ravi. About the film, the director said at the Prime Video event, “As the name says, this film is about Ashwatthama from Mahabharat. He is immortal and believed to be present even today. The idea is to bring the story of Ashwatthama in the present time, and explore the concept of immortality. I don’t want to reveal much about the film but this film is big action scale genre and the moment we bring immortal character in the film, and it opens up possibility as a filmmaker and writer to explore the dramatic scenes. The character of Ashwatthama is something that fascinated me since childhood and I always wanted to make a film about this character, and I’m very happy finally this film is getting launched. I’ve spent a lot of time with Shahid discussing creative things. I’m looking forward to start this project.”
