Choreographer-director Farah Khan spoke about her close friend Shah Rukh Khan‘s presence before, during, and after her pregnancy. In an interview, Farah spoke about conceiving through IVF when she was in her 40s, and how Shah Rukh was the first person outside the family to know that she was expecting triplets. She said that they were shooting Om Shanti Om when she conceived, and Shah Rukh made efforts to make her feel comfortable on set.

In an interview on the Nova IVF Fertility YouTube channel, Farah said that she would go for the artificial insemination procedure before and after the shoot. The clinic, she said, was over an hour away from the set. After initial setbacks, she would cry on her way back to the set, and one time, Shah Rukh noticed something was wrong. “For the first five-six months, there were only lows, because they were retrieving eggs and planting them, and I don’t know how many times I must have gone under general anesthesia. The first time I went to the doc I was so sure that I was pregnant, but I literally got my period in her office. So I used to be sobbing all the way back to the shoot. One day, in the middle of the day, I got a call from the doctor, and she said it’s not happened this time. We were shooting a comic scene, and Shah Rukh knew something was wrong, because I was going to cry. So, he called for a break and took me into his van, where I’ve sobbed for one hour.”

Farah said that after her mother, Shah Rukh was the first person to know that she had conceived. “I said, ‘I have to tell you something’. He looked at me and said, ‘Are you pregnant?’ We still had to finish Darde-e-Disco, and every time he’d remove his shirt I would throw up. He would keep a bucket next to me. He was very sweet, he ordered this lazy boy couch, instead of the director’s chair, so that I could lie down with a mic and shout at people.”

Farah also described the day that she gave birth, and said that over 30 people had crowded into the delivery room because the hospital she was admitted to hadn’t had a triplet birth in decades. And Shah Rukh dropped by the same day to congratulate her. “Shah Rukh came the same day to the hospital and there was a stampede. The patients have come out with their IV drips and Shah Rukh khada hai.” Shah Rukh also bought Farah’s triplets a fancy pram from Harrod’s, but didn’t realise that it would be too large to fit through the doors of Farah’s house. “He came home and he fixed it, but it was so big that it wouldn’t go out of the door,” she said, adding that all her friends from the film industry took very good care of her during the pregnancy, and that Shah Rukh’s wife, Gauri, threw a baby shower for her.

Farah’s children – Czar, Diva and Anya – were born in 2008. She has been married to film editor and director Shirish Kunder since 2004. Farah and Shah Rukh had a famous falling out a few years after her children’s birth, but have since patched up.
