Karan Johar has revealed the first look of Ok Jaanu starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.

Karan Johar has revealed the first look of Ok Jaanu starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. The first poster has both Aditya and Shraddha hugging each other, with Mumbai’s Marine drive forming the backdrop. Ok Jaanu is directed by Shaad Ali of Saathiya fame. The film is produced by Mani Ratnam and Karan Johar and is a remake of Tamil hit OK Kanmani. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film while lyrics are penned by Gulzar. The film will release on January 13, 2017.

Karan tweeted the first look and shared, “You have a date with unabashed and unapologetic LOVE on the 13th of Jan!! ADITYA ROY KAPUR and SHRADDHA KAPOOR IN #OkJaanu.” The film will have Aditya and Shraddha essaying a pair which doesn’t believe in marriage so decide to live together. What happens after this forms the crux of the film.

This is not the first time that a Tamil romantic flick has been remade for mainstream Hindi audience. Earlier, Saathiya starring Rani Mukerji and Vivek Oberoi was remade from Tamil movie Alaipayuthey starring R Madhavan. Satthiya was a big hit at the box office, fetching Rani Mukerji multiple awards for her stellar performance. Another Tamil romantic hit Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa directed by Gautham Menon was remade as Ek Dewaana Tha. The film didn’t do well at the box office.

Meanwhile, OK Jaanu is a remake of O Kadhal Kanmani (also known as OK Kanmani) that released last year. Starring Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen, the film was directed by Mani Ratnam. Its music and acting by the original leads was an instant hit amongst audience down south. It also had a beautiful cinematography. It will be interesting to see if its Hindi remake will be able to do the same.
