Manish Malhotra reveals he accidentally texted actress he ‘didn’t enjoy working with’: ‘I’m done with her and this film’
Manish Malhotra recalled an incident when he was left completely puzzled after being asked to make an actress look “sexy” during a funeral scene in a film.
Manish Malhotra appeared on the show Too Much With Twinkle and Kajol. Celebrity designer Manish Malhotra, who has dressed some of the biggest names in the film industry and other high-profile personalities in his illustrious 35-year career, has had his fair share of challenges and amusing experiences along the way. In a recent interaction, Manish recalled an incident when he was left completely puzzled after being asked to make an actress look “sexy” during a funeral scene in a film.
Speaking about the episode on the show Too Much With Kajol and Twinkle, he shared, “The one of the first outfits I made and they said, ‘It’s a funeral scene so make her a white salwar kameez but she should look hot.'” Manish admitted that he didn’t question the strange brief because he didn’t want anyone to think he “doesn’t know his job,” but later understood that what the makers wanted was a tight-fitting outfit. “I made fitted, almost tearing salwar kameez,” he recalled with a laugh.
Twinkle Khanna then pulled Manish’s leg as she reminded him of another memorable incident when he accidentally sent a message to an actress he didn’t particularly enjoy working with — a message that was actually meant for someone else. Twinkle said, “You didn’t enjoy working with someone and we believe that you sent her a message accidentally. Can you please tell us about that?”
Though hesitant at first, Manish went on to narrate the story. “This happened once in my life and I actually enjoyed working with her in a very hit film and we worked a lot together, we still do. But I wrote to my nephew Puneet Malhotra. I wrote to him, ‘Last day and I going on the set, done with this film and done with her.’ I sent the message by mistake to that very actress.” Manish further shared, “But she was very gracious and she was very good about it. So it was all cleared.”
For the unversed, Punit Malhotra has directed three films in his career — Sonam Kapoor’s I Hate Luv Storys, Kareena Kapoor’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, and Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday’s Student of the Year 2.
During the same episode, Manish also fondly recalled how Kajol unknowingly started a fashion trend on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He said, “I told her wow, you’re looking so nice today. The lehenga’s really heavy right, she picked up the lehenga and there were sneakers down!” He added, “But actually, the trend of sneakers with the lehenga, she started that.”
