Lalit Modi shares video with new ‘love’, netizens wonder about his ‘relationship’ with Sushmita Sen: ‘It happened twice’

IPL founder and fugitive Lalit Modi has shared a video montage on Instagram featuring his new love interest. Modi was previously in a relationship with Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen, and back in 2022, he had shared photos of their romance, documenting their trips to the Maldives, Sardinia, and other destinations. However, breakup rumours soon surfaced after Modi removed Sushmita from his Instagram display picture. This Valentine’s Day, Modi announced a new innings in his love life.

In his Instagram post, Modi did not reveal the name of his new partner but mentioned that they had been friends for 25 years before their friendship blossomed into romance. He wrote, “Lucky Once – Yes. But I got lucky TWICE. When a 25 year friendship turns to LOVE. It happened twice. Hope it does for you all too. #happyvalentinesday to you all.” The video shows the couple enjoying themselves at parties and beach vacations. It also includes old photographs of them during their friendship, highlighting their longstanding bond.

Lalit Modi was previously married to Minal Modi, who passed away from cancer in 2018. In 2022, he took social media by storm when he shared vacation photos with Sushmita Sen, publicly declaring their relationship. In his post, he mentioned that while they weren’t married yet, they planned to tie the knot soon. He had written, “Just back in london after a whirling global tour #maldives # sardinia with the families – not to mention my #betterhalf @sushmitasen47- a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon. 🥰😘😍😍🥰💕💞💖💘💓.” In another tweet, he had clarified, “Just for clarity. Not married – just dating each other. That too it will happen one day.”

Modi had also changed his Instagram bio at the time, writing, “Founder @iplt20 India Premier League Finally starting a new life with my partner in crime. My love @sushmitasen47.”

Sushmita, however, neither confirmed nor denied their relationship. A few months later, in September 2022, Lalit Modi removed Sushmita Sen from his Instagram bio and display picture, sparking rumours of their breakup. Now, in 2025, the IPL founder has officially revealed that he has moved on. Meanwhile, Sushmita had previously dated model Rohman Shawl, but they announced their breakup in 2021 while continuing to remain friends.
