Sushmita Sen: From Miss Universe to Acclaimed Actress Sushmita Sen, born November 19, 1975, is a prominent Indian actress and the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title in 1994. Her Bollywood career began with Dastak (1996), followed by notable roles in commercially successful films like Aankhen (2002), Main Hoon Na (2004), and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005). Sen's performance as the girlfriend of a married man in Biwi No. 1 (1999) earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, with further nominations for her work in Sirf Tum (1999) and Filhaal... (2002). After a period away from the screen, Sen's resurgence began with her critically acclaimed role in the Disney+ Hotstar series Aarya (2020-2024), winning her a Filmfare OTT Award. This was followed by her portrayal of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the biographical miniseries Taali (2023). Sen's career showcases a blend of mainstream success and a recent embrace of compelling character-driven roles, demonstrating her versatility and enduring appeal.
