At the latest edition of SCREEN Live on Thursday, Kartik Aaryan opened up about the much-discussed clash between his film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again. While expressing his excitement for the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, he admitted that its clash with Singham Again made his “heart beat faster.” Kartik also shared his thoughts on the significance of box office performance and addressed the ongoing debate around the alleged inflation of box office numbers by filmmakers.

Speaking about the clash between Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again, Kartik said, “We were relieved ki picture chal gai humare (We were relieved that our film worked). We were excited but also nervous because two big films were releasing on the same day. Initially, we were stress-free when it was a solo release on Diwali. It was an entertainer, and we knew that people would enjoy this film. But suddenly, when both films were supposed to release on the same day, the heart beat increased. Everyone was nervous about what was going to happen. On day one, it felt like my first film was releasing. When the film worked, we were relieved that our hard work of 2.5 years paid off—and nothing else.”

Kartik Aaryan also shared his broader perspective on the clash of big Bollywood films, especially during festive seasons. He said that Diwali, being a major holiday, offers enough room for two major films to perform well. “The genres of these two films were very different. One was an action film, and the other was a horror comedy. I feel there was enough space for both films. It was a bonanza for film lovers, but if this had been a regular Friday, then maybe things would have been difficult for one of the films. Because it was a Diwali holiday, there were enough screens, and people were in the mood to watch films. The mood was to enjoy, and I think that’s why it got balanced.”

Discussing the importance of box office performance, Kartik emphasized its role in the larger scheme of filmmaking. “I think box office is very important. It’s a business model at the end of the day. You want profits to happen for everyone associated with the film. If you earn money on one film, then you can put more money into your next film. You have to keep the ball rolling,” he explained.

When asked about the contentious issue of filmmakers inflating box office numbers, Kartik Aaryan gave a candid response. “It depends—some people do it, and some don’t. It has reached a level where the lines are so blurred that you don’t even know what’s happening. Sometimes, you have to make a guess yourself about how much a film has actually earned,” he said. However, the actor also highlighted how today’s audience is smarter. “Audiences are so smart these days that they use their own judgment rather than relying on box office numbers to decide whether to watch a film. Eventually, I think films find their space and their audience.”
