Karan Johar’s films are all about romance and friendship, however, the filmmaker confessed that it’s really tough to find love in real life. In a recent event, Karan was speaking about completing 25 years in the business. As he discussed his first film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he spoke about how relationships and their struggles have changed over the years. He also mentioned how today, young people face a more ‘turbulent’ break-up than earlier times.

Karan was talking at the Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest and revealed how he has never been on a dating app to find love. In the same breath, he did confess that he had downloaded Raya, a membership-based dating app, as he was told it had people from the entertainment industry. “But every time I
ticked someone, but they didn’t tick me back. They did not respond. I faced multiple rejections,” he shared.

The filmmaker added that he assumed people thought it was a fake account and hence never responded. Having faced many rejections, he decided to leave the app. He added with a smirk, “I had a really.. like I felt an inferiority. I was quite lenient also, ticking away but there was no correspondence.”

Karan Johar then shared how it’s really difficult to find love, “Find someone one can relate to and be compassionate and compatible.” He added that everyone’s struggles are the same. He then laughed at how people often tell everyone to ‘put yourself out there’. He questioned, “But where is that ‘there’? I have looked for that but don’t know where to go.”

Karan added that he travels the world and is quite ‘affable and social’ and makes a point to meet people of different cultures and professions. He added, “It’s damn easy to say… I have been looking for that there.. in case someone knows, please send me the address.”

Recently, in an interview with Mid-Day, Karan Johar had spoken candidly about his heartbreak. The filmmaker said that he wouldn’t wish this experience on anybody. He also revealed that the person in question is still a part of his ecosystem, and that he treats them as family, but specifically said that they don’t belong to the film industry. Karan said that he has been on dates both virtual and in person since the pandemic, but none of those meetings progressed to a more meaningful stage.

Karan Johar’s production company was recently honoured with the National Award for Shershaah. He also returned to direction earlier this year with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The filmmaker will also return as the host of Koffee with Karan 8.
