Karan Johar offered John Abraham one-scene role in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham: ‘I thought he’d be great on ramp, not on screen’

Karan then shared that he never thought that John would become a good actor. Recalling meeting John at Gladrags Manhunt India 1999, where he was on the judges’ panel and John was a contestant, Karan said, “I knew John because I was one of the judges when John was strapped at Gladrags. He came to me and I was like, “Poor fellow, why does he want to become a hero? I thought he is the kind of model who would be great on the ramp but definitely not on screen. John, who won the title at the talent hunt, added, “I went to Karan for some advice about what roles I should do and he offered me Robby. In the entire film (K3G), I kept on looking for Robby.. I couldn’t see Robby.” Karan laughed and apologised to John, “I am sorry about that. I never thought you will reach this stage.”

John Abraham made his acting debut with the 2003 thriller Jism. He gained popularity after playing Kabir in Yash Raj Film’s superhit film Dhoom (2004). He also won over cinephiles with his comic timing in films like Housefull 2 and Welcome Back. He also grabbed a National Film Award for his production, Vicky Donor. The actor was last seen in Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan as an antagonist. Going forward, the actor has a family entertainer, along with Riteish Deshmukh and Shehnaaz Gill, in his kitty.
