Farah Khan reveals they sought refuge at Farhan Akhtar’s home after parents separated over father’s alcoholism: ‘His mother helped us’

Farah Khan and Farhan Akhtar reminisced about several childhood memories, including the period when Farah and her family lived with Farhan after her mother parted ways with her father, Kamran Khan, over his alcoholism.

In her latest vlog, Farah Khan visited her cousin and actor-director Farhan Akhtar’s home in Mumbai. Farah’s mother, Menaka Irani, and Farhan’s mother, Honey Irani, are sisters. During the vlog, Farah and Farhan reminisced about several fun childhood memories, including the period when Farah and her family lived with Farhan after her mother parted ways with her father, Kamran Khan, and the family fell on bad days.

Farah recalls living in Farhan’s house after separation of parents

Talking about that time, Farah said, “When Sajid (Sajid Khan, Farah’s brother and filmmaker) and I were small, Farhan’s mother gave us refuge and help. And we lived together for many years in Farhan’s house.” For the unversed, Farah’s father Kamran Khan became bankrupt after his film massively flopped at the box office, which led him to alcoholism. Eventually, Farah’s mother separated from Kamran and moved out of his house to live independently.

Farhan Akhtar got admission in college because of Javed Akhtar

During the interaction, Farah recalled how Farhan was not good in studies and struggled to get admission in college, something that upset his father, legendary writer Javed Akhtar. She shared, “He went to take admission in a college at the time when his marks were very low. And the college principal was very rude. She said ‘I am giving her admission because of Javed Akhtar sahab but actually he doesn’t deserve to be in this college.’ And then we were all feeling so bad and his father was so upset.”

However, Farhan seemed completely unbothered by the incident. Farah said, “After visiting the college, we were crossing Marine Drive and we thought Farhan would also feel bad, but he asked his father to buy him masala bhel. His dad got so angry and told him, ‘Sharam nahi aate tumhe (Aren’t you ashamed?).'”

Farah rejected Farhan’s film offer for a more lucrative deal

Farah shared, “I really wanted to choreograph a song in which Farhan dances because he’s a really good dancer.” Farhan revealed that he had approached Farah to choreograph a song in his upcoming film 120 Bahadur, but she refused the offer because she had signed MasterChef India. Farhan said, “I had also approached you but again you got busy.” Farah admitted, “I was getting more money in Masterchef. Hamari puri family ko paise se kitna pyaar hai (Our whole family loves money).”

Sajid Khan fought with Farah and Farhan, accused them of being jealous

Farah Khan also recalled an incident when her brother and filmmaker Sajid Khan fought with her and Farhan Akhtar, accusing them of being jealous of his success. She said, “Farhan was at my home when Sajid fought with us, and he walked out of the house.”

Farhan explained the incident and said, “We were playing a game, and Sajid thought everybody was cheating and didn’t want him to win the game. He told all of us that ‘you all are jealous of me since childhood because my film was better than all your first films,’ and then he left the house.” Farah added, “Only to come back home after 15 minutes.”
