Jaideep Ahlawat recently played the role of a predatory godman in the Netflix film Maharaj, which marked the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan. Though the film received mixed reviews, Jaideep emerged largely unaffected. While he is already regarded as one of the finest Hindi film actors of his generation, his physical transformation is what stole the spotlight. For his role, the actor shed about 27 kilograms in total. In a video released by Netflix, Jaideep and Junaid discussed their roles, and Jaideep revealed that his physique was something that YRF boss Aditya Chopra wanted.

He said, “This was very difficult. This was my first assignment after lockdown. Aditya Chopra said a beautiful thing, ‘Everyone believes you will nail it. Everyone believes you are a good actor. But I feel if you try something new, then it will be different for the audience. So you will look really nice if you lose weight. We will structure your body that way.’ I was like, ‘Okay sir.’ Precisely I was 109.7 kilos. It took me five months to reach to the weight of 82 kilos.”

He continued, “I still remember the look of my trainer Prajwal sir, when he saw me on my day one. When we began training, I couldn’t finish my fifth pushup. I stayed on the ground. And I looked at him and I was like, ‘I can do it sir.’ But the conviction in his eyes was so bad. I said, ‘We’ll do it, sir.’ Within a month, I almost lost eight to nine kilos. But it was very painful. He had videos of me where I am crying. It’s in his phone. He said, ‘I will show them to you some day’. I think this is probably the right time, he will make me viral where a man is crying while exercising.”
