Hrithik Roshan’s girlfriend Saba Azad opens up about still being BFFs with her ex, says they will ‘grow old together’
Hrithik Roshan's girlfriend, Saba Azad, opened up about her friendship with her ex-partner, Imaad Shah. She said that they were advised to spend time apart after their break-up, but they chose to evolve.
Saba Azad and Imaad Shah were in a romantic relationship before she started seeing Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik Roshan’s girlfriend, Saba Azad, said that she and her ex-partner, Imaad Shah, chose to remain friends after breaking up, despite the advice of their friends. In an interview, she said that she and Imaad have no reason to stop loving each other, and that they’re probably closer now than they ever were. The equation that she and Imaad have developed is similar to the relationship that Hrithik shares with his ex-wife, Sussanne Khan. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saba and Imaad opened up about how they navigated separation, and how they continue to remain BFFs.
She said, “Imaad is the most gentle, calmest person I know. I’m very highly-strung. He balances me out. Everyone needs a bestie who brings a soothing energy in your life.” Imaad reciprocated, and said, “She’s very versatile, very in touch with her emotions; she’s in touch with the child inside her. She can be one of those cartoons… I see cute animals in her…”
Asked if their friendship underwent a change after they broke up, Imaad said, “It was very natural. I remember when we split up, a lot of our friends were saying that maybe we shouldn’t meet each other for a while. It felt more like an evolution to another stage rather than something has ended. It was also long, and things happened in a slow-burn sort of way, and by the time the so-called romantic relationship ended, it didn’t feel like a lot of heartache.”
Saba added, “It transformed. It didn’t feel like a loss. Unless someone has really treated the other person very badly, when you have loved someone once, how do you stop loving them? Maybe your love transforms. Maybe it’s not romantic love, and it transforms into a beautiful friendship. In fact, it’s so much safer than a romantic relationship, because there is no fear of loss. Platonic friendships last so much longer, and with him, it’s truly like family.”
Saba said that they’ve ‘grown up together’, and will ‘grow old together’. Saba and Imaad first met while auditioning for roles in Delhi Belly, but connected when she was putting together a play and thought of casting him in it. They also have a band, and continue to perform together even now. “There is no way I’m not going to have this man in my life. I’m not going to copy and paste somebody else’s idea of what is correct for my life, and what is the norm, and what is acceptable or unacceptable. We were very clear that we’re going to be friends forever, and that we’re going to grow old together.”
Saba was last seen in the Prime Video film Songs of Paradise; she also played a supporting role in the web series Rocket Boys, and appeared in a handful of YRF projects over a decade ago.
