Cyrus Sahukar says Karan Johar refused to come on his spoof show about Simi Garewal, veteran actor was ‘hurt’ by it

Actor Cyrus Sahukar, who first got famous with MTV’s Rendezvous with Semi Girebaal, a spoof of Simi Garewal’s chat show, recently shared how Simi was very “hurt” by his spoof show. He also revealed that filmmaker Karan Johar refused to grace the show for the second time because his mother Hiroo Johar had a problem with it.

Speaking to Cyrus Broacha on his podcast, Sahukar said, “Karan Johar told me I can’t come on your show. He did one episode and we called him again. He said ‘Bro, my mom will kill me’.” Broacha added, “Simi Grewal was my neighbour and she used to like me growing up. But then she stopped talking to me. She was very nice, but she was hurt.”

Broacha recalled that they wanted Simi to appear on the show but they couldn’t even get to her. He recalled, “We had a proposal to have her for a season ending where he talks to her, which I thought would have been really sporting. But we couldn’t even get to her. And she’s really nice but she was hurt and once someone is hurt you can’t do anything.”

Sahukar appreciated the interviewing skills of Simi Grewal and said, “She has done the best interviews. I still go back and watch them because at that point there was an honesty in people, they weren’t so guarded. The show had Cyrus Sahukar dressing up as Simi and interviewing guests in her signature style. At the time, the show was extremely popular, and the same was true for the spoof show.

Simi had previously addressed about the show and had revealed that it was a complete waste of time. She told DNA, “I honestly have not seen the show. Only a couple of promos. The only ‘Girebal’ show I saw was the one Karan Johar and Cyrus (Broacha) did last year. That was in very poor taste and I was surprised Karan could be a part of it. I’m not even curious to know what the existing spoof is. Some friends caught one or two episodes and said it was a complete waste of time.”
