(Photo: Action Hero Films/ Instagram)Billed as India’s first ‘extreme sports action film’, Vidyut Jammwal, Arjun Rampal, Nora Fatehi and Amy Jackson’s Crakk: Jeetega… Toh Jiyegaa has had a lukewarm opening at the cinemas. According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, the film, which was released on February 23, minted Rs 4 crore at the box office on day one.
The film opened to poor reviews from critics, but it capitalised on discounted ticket prices of Rs 99. Considering the drop in ticket prices, the film has actually fared quite well. However, it is yet to see how director Aditya Dutt’s performs over the weekend, which will be its real test. Crakk is competing against the political thriller Article 370, which made Rs 5.7 crore on day one.

According to Sacnilk the film witnessed an an overall 29.69 percent occupancy. In Mumbai, the film had 441 shows with 31.50 percent occupancy, in Delhi and NCR there were 695 shows with 36.25 percent occupancy. In south Indian cities the occupancy ranged from 20 percent to 25 percent, which is not too bad for a Hindi film with mid-level star value.
In addition to headlining it, Vidyut has also produced the film. Crakk is also Arjun Rampal’s first Hindi film after the debacle of Dhaakad, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead. Released in 2022, Dhaakad was poorly received, and ended its lifetime run with merely Rs 2.58 crore. Nora Fatehi, on the other hand, was last seen in Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s Thank God, which also performed poorly at the box office. However, this is Amy Jackson’s first film after she announced her engagement with Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick.
As far as Vidyut is concerned, Crakk’s opening exceeds that of his last film, IB 71, which made Rs 1.5 crore on day one. It also performed better than Commando, which made Rs 3.7 crore on day one in 2013. His personal best opening is Commando 2, which made Rs 5.1 crore, while Commando 2 made Rs 4.7 crore on day one. Crakk had a star-studded premiere in Mumbai on Thursday. Arjun’s daughters Mahika and Myra and girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades attended the special night to cheer for him. However Vidyut gave the premiere night a miss.
