The first look of Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet could well be a panel from a graphic novel. Ranibr Kapoor essays the role of a streetfighter, Johnny Balraj, in the film that follows the journey of his ambitions and his love for a jazz singer in Anushka Sharma.
Karan Johar makes his screen debut playing the part of a media baron and the antagonist. The first look of the much-delayed film, released on Wednesday, also gives us a glimpse of Kashyap’s noir-ish version of Bombay in the ’50s and ’60s. The movie borrows its title from the neon-lit signboard of the jazz nightclub we see in the poster, which plays an important role in the plot.
