By minting Rs 510 crore worldwide within just 11 days of its release, Stree 2 has become the second highest-grossing film of 2024. While Stree 2 has taken the box office by storm, the credit war between the film’s lead actors, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, and their PR teams has been nothing short of embarrassing. In a recent interaction, Rajkummar spoke about the film’s success, reflecting on his humble beginnings and how he didn’t grow up with money. He described himself as “audiences’ own” and noted that many fans view the film’s success as their personal victory.

Speaking to News18, he said, “We were sure that the film would get lot of love because of the love that Stree 1 got. There’s a big fan-following for Stree, including me. I am a huge fan of Stree myself. But these numbers are way above our expectations. We are glad and super elated. There’s a lot of gratitude that this is happening with a film like Stree, because it is content-driven film.”

Talking about his humble beginnings, he added, “There’s a lot of gratitude. God has been really kind. I have got a lot of love from the audience and they have accepted me for who I am. I have come from nowhere. I come from a very humble beginning. I didn’t grow up with money around me. I am one of their [audience’s] own. A lot of messages I get say that it feels like a personal victory, which is overwhelming.”

While neither Rajkummar nor Shraddha has reacted to the raging PR war between them, their Stree 2 co-star Aparshakti Khurana has called the tussle for credit ’embarrassing.’ Speaking to Zoom about the situation, he said, “See, this is a PR game. If your channel goes and asks the original audience on the street, are they saying this? I want to know that. So, this is a PR game, and I don’t want to comment on it. I love each and every actor of my film. I am attached to them. In such a happy space, where the film has received so much love and success, this can come across as slightly unpleasant.”

In a previous conversation with Bollywood Life, Stree 2’s Abhishek Banerjee shared that the film belongs to its director, Amar Kaushik. “Stree belongs to Amar Kaushik. No matter how much you fight, or what you do, it’s all pointless. What purpose do all the fights over credit serve? The director is the captain of the ship, and remember that any film, any good performance, whatever you guys are watching, is because of the director. It is because he can keep the team connected. Stree 2 is a team film; it’s an ensemble film,” he said.
