The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal registered a minimal drop in box office revenue on its 12th day of release. According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, Animal made around Rs 13 crore on its second Tuesday, after earning Rs 13.8 crore on Monday. The film delivered the biggest second-weekend haul in Hindi movie history, when it collected Rs 87 crore in total. After 12 days in theatres, Animal has made Rs 458 crore in India.

Animal’s box office collections have been astronomical, and all signs point to Animal leaping past the Rs 500 crore mark domestically this weekend. This is the film’s last real window to perform, before Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar land in theatres on December 21 and 22, respectively. Animal is all set to become the fourth Hindi film of the year to pass the Rs 500 crore mark, after Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan. The film’s global gross collections stand at least Rs 750 crore at present, roughly Rs 250-Rs 300 crore shy of Pathaan and Jawan’s records.

It’s the third-biggest Indian film of the year so far, behind Pathaan and Jawan, both of which made more than Rs 1000 crore globally. Animal is the biggest A-rated movie in history, and the biggest film of Ranbir Kapoor’s career. The actor’s previous top-grosser was 2018’s Sanju, which made around Rs 590 crore worldwide. Incidentally, Animal will clash with Sanju director Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki in just a few days.

But the crime epic, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, actually clashed at the box office with Meghna Gulzar’s war biopic Sam Bahadur, which has been struggling in its wake. Despite the box office competition, the restrictive A rating, and the unusually long run time, Animal has performed like a four-quadrant hit. The film has also attracted criticism for its depiction of toxic masculinity and its glorification of misogynist behaviour. Also starring Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, Animal is on track to become the third Hindi movie of the year to pass the $100 million mark globally.
