It was the mutual desire of both actor Amitabh Bachchan and director Anurag Kashyap to work together, and a project materialised in the form of the short film anthology Bombay Talkies. Anurag directed Amitabh in the short film Murabba, in which the legendary star played himself, opposite Vineet Kumar Singh, who played his fan.

Here’s a bit of trivia: Murabba featured scenes shot inside the compound of Amitabh’s real house in Mumbai, Jalsa. Not many visuals of the Bachchan family home are available on public platforms. When Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan invited Oprah Winfrey to the house, they had a strict no-photos and videos mandate, because their daughter Aaradhya had just been born. But a behind-the-scenes featurette for Murabba not only showed peeks inside the Bachchan family bungalow, but also showed glimpses of its facade and garden area.

The two-minute video contained footage of the road outside Jalsa, which gets jammed every Sunday when fans gather from across the country to catch a glimpse of Amitabh, who greets them from a pedestal. In Murabba, Vineet played one such fan.

“This is the first time that I’m working with Anurag, and it has been a long-cherished desire of mine to work with him,” Amitabh says in the vide, over shots of Anurag directing him in the driveway of his bungalow. We can also see a white Porsche sports car parked in the background. “I’m lucky to have been given this opportunity, everybody dreams of working with someone like Mr Bachchan,” Vineet says in the video. “We’ve been given the opportunity to shoot in his house,” Vineet adds, over shots of his character entering the main gate of the compound, revealing the garden in the background. The video then cuts to Amitabh standing in the garden, surrounded by the crew. Also visible among the crew is recent Oscar winner, producer Guneet Monga.

In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Anurag recalled working with Amitabh on the hit television show Yudh, and on Murabba. He said that he assured Amitabh that he needed only a couple of shots of his house, one of which would be of a silhouette in one of the windows, because this was a memory that he himself had of waiting outside Jalsa to catch a glimpse of the star.
