Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar are riding high on the success of their latest film, Singham Again, which has proven to be one of the biggest hits of the year. The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor among others. In a recent interaction, both Akshay and Ajay opened up about the financial dynamics of the industry, addressing topics like entourage costs, actors’ fees, and their evolving profit-sharing models.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ajay clarified that while Singham Again has earned big at the box office, its revenues don’t directly translate into massive profits due to the high costs associated with such a production. As per Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 226.5 crore since its release in the first 16 days. “It’s a myth that we are counting notes. The numbers people talk about, those are gross numbers. The numbers aren’t exactly what you think they are. It boils down 50 percent of what the gross collections are,” he said.

When asked whether the profits of a film are impacted by the entourage costs of stars, Ajay dismissed the notion and said, “The actors charge according to script and the film and most of us are charging according to the recovery of the film. It’s not vice versa.”

Akshay Kumar joined the discussion, shedding light on how actors often make money through profit-sharing arrangements. “We both are producers also. So if we produce our film or sign any film. We don’t charge anything. We just take a kind of a stake or something which is there. So the film will not flop. If the film does well, we get a good amount, if it doesn’t do well, we get a small amount,” he shared.

In 2024, Akshay has witnessed many flops at the box office including the big budget Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sarfira, Khel Khel Mein. In the last two years, he has had a string of flops which includes films like Mission Raniganj, Selfiee, Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu among many others.

Ajay further emphasised that there are times when even big actors have to walk away empty-handed if a major project fails at the box office. “Sometimes there is no amount also. Sometimes when you are producing an elaborate project you have to let go of the price that you were supposed to get. It’s also passion sometimes,” he said.
