I want Shah Rukh Khan’s business acumen, Salman Khan’s ‘single status’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘eight-hour shift contracts’: Ajay Devgn

Actor Ajay Devgn‘s dry humour was on full display on the latest episode of Koffee with Karan, as he made jokes about his wife, Kajol, and his contemporaries in the film industry, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Ajay was joined on the episode by his Singham and Golmaal director Rohit Shetty. The rapid fire round opened with Ajay firing a shot directly at Karan Johar, referencing their much-publicised feud in the mid-2010s. Ajay referred to Karan as his ‘sworn enemy’ in the film industry.

Asked who the more bankable star is between Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, Ajay replied, “Bank balance wise, I think Shah Rukh.” Karan remarked, “Yes, especially this year.” Shah Rukh has released three films in 2023, two of which, Pathaan and Jawan, have emerged as the biggest hits of his career; the third, Dunki, debuted in theatres on Thursday. Next, Ajay was asked to list one thing each that he’d want to take from Shah Rukh, Salman and Akshay’s careers. About Salman, he said, “Single status.” About Shah Rukh, he said, “His business acumen.” And about Akshay, he said, “His eight-hour shift contract, and finishing in 40 days.”

Ajay also joked about his wife Kajol’s talkative nature, and said that he can’t tolerate her newfound obsession with social media, and taking photos to post. He said that he gets impatient with her when she asks him to pose for photos with her. Asked what the most bizarre question one of his kids has asked him, Ajay said that when his son Yug was seven years old, he asked him why he works so hard. When Ajay said that he works to ensure a stable future for his family, Yug said, “But can money buy happiness?” Karan was moved by Yug’s wisdom, and called him an ‘old soul’.

Karan and Ajay were engaged in a feud in 2016, around the time when their films Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay were set to clash at the box office. The feud also created a rift between Karan and Kajol, which they resolved many years later, after the birth of Karan’s twins, Yash and Roohi.
