Ajay Devgn, born to legendary action director Veeru Devgn, has long been celebrated as Bollywood’s definitive action hero. His journey was sealed in public memory from the moment he made his debut in Phool Aur Kaante (1991), performing the now-iconic split-leg entry atop two moving motorcycles. Over the years, Ajay built a reputation of performing his own stunts. This unshakeable commitment was highlighted once again when his De De Pyaar De 2 co-star, R Madhavan, shared a startling anecdote.
Ajay later elaborated on this frightening experience, painting a vivid picture of what truly happened behind the scenes. When he arrived at the designated skydiving location in the United States, professional stunt performers were already shooting mid-air jumps. The area, he said, was known among experts as a popular skydiving zone. But moments after he reached the site, he witnessed something that would shake even the bravest performer.
“As soon as I reached, I saw someone fall because his parachute didn’t open, and he died—right in front of me. And it was me next,” Ajay recalled, still visibly affected by the memory.
Even after witnessing the fatal accident, Ajay was required to complete the stunt. Before the jump, he had to record a video statement confirming he was undertaking the act voluntarily and sign extensive paperwork acknowledging the life-threatening risk involved.
Ajay also mentioned a chilling parallel involving Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio at the same location. “Something similar happened with Leonardo DiCaprio, but his instructor jumped after him and saved his life. You will even find a message from him there that reads: ‘Thanks for saving my life.’”
