The box office debacle of his latest film, AR Murugadoss’ action flick Sikandar, hasn’t stopped film offers from coming Salman Khan’s way. However, if reliable industry sources are to be believed, the actor is now gravitating towards a safe space. He may soon reunite with filmmakers he’s delivered critically acclaimed box office hits with. However, he has not greenlit any project yet.
“Salman Khan’s upcoming slate is very exciting. The writers and directors who are in talks with the megastar have filtered only promising content. Interestingly, his previous blockbuster collaborator, Ali Abbas Zafar of Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Bharat fame has a massy subject for Khan,” said the source.
YRF, Zafar, and Salman reunited for the spy thriller Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017, the sequel to Kabir Khan’s blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger (2012). The film starred Katrina Kaif opposite Salman and revolved around the two spies rescuing abducted Indian and Pakistani nurses from a terrorist outfit in the Middle East.
Zafar and Salman last collaborated on the 2019 hit Bharat, a period drama which juxtaposed the journey of Salman’s titular character against that of the nation. Katrina played the leading lady here as well. Bharat was backed by Salman Khan Films, his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Productions, and T-Series.
Not only Zafar, but Kabir Khan is “also in talks” with Salman for a “solid content-driven film.” Salman and Kabir have not only collaborated on Ek Tha Tiger, but also the 2015 blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which revolved around Salman’s character taking a mute girl back from India to her home in Pakistan. Kabir and Salman also worked together on Tubelight (2017), but the film bombed at the box office.
In a recent interview, Salman revealed that veteran screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad is writing the sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. “Its sequel can be made. But the problem is that if it’s made, then Munni will talk. He (Vijayendra Prasad) is writing it, and a draft is ready,” said Salman.
Even Sooraj Barjatya, who gave Salman his 1989 breakthrough Maine Pyaar Kiya, is in talks for another ensemble movie. The two have also given hits like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Hum Saath – Saath Hain (1999), and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). “There are two films. I’ve to decide which one to do next. Barjatya sahab is doing a film now. I’ll do his next one,” Salman said.
Additionally, “the superstar is also in talks with makers for an intriguing subject based on a real-life story fro0m Galwan Ghati, Ladakh, Aksai Chin,” said the source. “Though all these subjects are really interesting, let’s see which all films convert to go on floors in the near future,” the source added.
