Aayush Sharma says he believed a successful launch was all he needed: ‘I felt things would be easy, but…’

(Image: Aayush Sharma/Facebook) Despite being part of the Salim Khan family, Aayush Sharma’s journey in the cinema realm has not been a cakewalk. Following a lukewarm reception to his debut film Loveyatri (2018), Aayush has only been involved in Antim: The Final Truth (2021) so far, and even that received an underwhelming response, though both works being headlined by Salman Khan. While Loveyatri was bankrolled by Salman Khan Films, Antim starred Khan in the lead role; however, both movies failed at the box office.
Married to Arpita Khan, the younger adoptive sister of Salman Khan, Aayush recently revealed that he initially believed a successful launch was all he needed to advance his career, but that this notion turned out to be far from the truth.
“I know I’m married into a film family but that’s different. I saw the industry from the outside and it looked very glamourous. I felt things would be easy after the launch. I felt that one movie would change my life,” Aayush recalled during a chat with Hindustan Times.
“However, that was the biggest bubble that was burst. Launch helps you but then you have to go there every Friday to prove yourself again and again,” he added.
As he gears up for a comeback in Karan Lalit Butani’s Kwatha, which also serves as the Bollywood debut for Katrina Kaif’s sister Isabelle, the actor stated that he is in no rush and emphasised that he has no issue with staying out of the limelight for some time as he gets ready.
“For me, working in a film is important. Besides that, I don’t find it very necessary to get clicked on daily basis or to be in the spotlight constantly. I think, just work is important today. And if you’re doing good work, they’ll (audiences) remember you,” he added.
Expressing his desire to do more experimental films, Aayush added: “After Love Yatri came out, I wanted to do an action film. But nobody would give me action scripts. I was stereotyped as a chocolate boy…a lover boy.”
“I remember there was a time when the narration for a romantic film was to happen and that was the time when I had started working on my body. I got to know that the same production house is also making an action film. So I wore a Ganji and went to the narration so as to give them a perception that I can do an action-packed film as well,” he recalled.
