XAT 2025: Will cut-off increase? Experts, students share analysis

XAT 2025 Cut-off: The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2025 was held on January 5. It included moderate verbal ability and logical reasoning (VALR) questions and a moderate to difficult decision-making paper. Experts in the field predict that the cut-off for XAT 2025 will be lower than that for XAT 2024.

XAT cut-off percentiles for XLRI admission are based on several factors. The three main determining factors are the number of candidates appearing for XAT that year, the difficulty level of the XAT question paper, and the number of seats available, a statement on the xatonline.in says.

As per the XAT 2025 analysis shared by the Supergrads Toprankers, the Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning questions were moderate. The questions on Decision Making and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation were moderate to difficult and General Knowledge questions were of easy to moderate level.

The XAT 2025 exam question paper included five sections bifurcated into four sections — verbal ability and logical reasoning (VALR), decision-making (DM), quantitative ability, data interpretation (QADI) and general knowledge (GK) for which applicants were allotted 180 minutes. There was no essay writing section, and the questions asked in the GK  section were reduced to 20 from 25. 

In the DM section, the difficulty level was on par with previous years, with several questions ranging from moderate to challenging. Candidates who attempted 12 to 14 questions with accuracy are expected to score well in this segment. The VALR section was comparatively more accessible than in XAT 2024, featuring a greater number of straightforward questions. A good number of attempts for the VALR sections is 16-18 questions. Good attempts for GK sections are 10-11 questions.

As per a student, Amitabh Kumar, who appeared from an exam center in Kolkata, the overall level of difficulty of XAT 2025 was on the moderate to difficult side, while another from the same centre, Gaurav Sharma said that the exam was easy to moderate. 

Some new elements like probability-based questions in the QA section, cartoon-based DI question from New York Times, image of which was given in a critical reasoning questions were introduced in XAT 2025. There was no question on time and work in QA this year. 

The overall difficulty of XAT 2025 was moderate to difficult, with a total of  95 questions to be attempted within the 180-minute timeframe. 

XAT 2025 participating colleges include XLRI Jamshedpur, XISS Ranchi, St. Xavier’s University Kolkata, XIME Bengaluru, XIMR Mumbai, XIM Bhubaneswar, XIDAS Jabalpur, and Loyola Institute of Business Administration Chennai.
