UNESCO MGIEP (Mahatma Gandhi Institute of education for Peace and Sustainable Development) launched the second edition of Tech 2018 (Transforming Education Conference for Humanity) in collaboration with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh in Visakhapatnam Thursday.
Tech 2018 will showcase the role of games and digital learning in enabling a shift from “transmissive pedagogies” to “transformative pedagogies” to create peaceful and sustainable societies. The three-day education conference was inaugurated by AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu who said that he wants to make technological advancements in education a reality. The conference brings together education ministers, scientists, data, business and legal experts from 60 countries. Over the next three days, Tech 2018 will feature speakers from the fields of digital learning, artificial intelligence, games for learning and more.
In addition, UNESCO MGIEP launched a digital screening app for dyslexia. The DALI (Dyslexia Assessment for Languages of India) app has been developed by a team at UNESCO MGIEP and launched in Telegu, Marathi, Kannada, Hindi and English. It can be used by teachers and parents to assess the level of a child being at risk of dyslexia. A special research project to reduce curriculum stress using Project Based and Social Emotional Learning was jointly announced by Commissioner ofNavodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Dr B K Singh, UNESCO MGIEP, and Samsung India.
“The conference will be a place to train teachers on digital pedagogies through workshops and building partnerships,’’ said G Srinivasa Rao, HRD Minister. Prof Anantha Duraiappah, Director of UNESCO MGIEP said that eventually the goal of all education needs to be sustainable peace and development. “We at UNESCO MGIEP believe that education needs to nurture not just intellectual capacity but also the emotional quotient of the child,’’ he said. He also emphasized that technology had the potential to deliver such quality education at scale.
