In the 2025 edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), IIT Mandi secured the 26 position in the engineering category.The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) extends annual scholarships to academically outstanding and deserving students. These financial aids are offered in various ways, including tuition fee waivers and direct benefit transfers to students’ bank accounts.
IIT Mandi offers a diverse range of over 25 academic programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. These span multiple disciplines such as engineering, management, sciences, and humanities and social sciences. In the 2025 edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), IIT Mandi secured the 26 position in the engineering category.
The institute provides several scholarship schemes, including the HTRA (Half-Time Research Assistantship) for MS, MTech, and PhD scholars; merit-cum-means scholarships for students from General, OBC, and SC/ST categories; the Central Sector Scholarship for SC students under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment; the National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students; and the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), among others.
The Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship at IIT Mandi is offered to students from General, OBC, and SC/ST categories to support their academic journey. Valued at Rs 1,000 per month, the scholarship also includes a full tuition fee waiver. It is awarded for a duration of one year, starting from the date of registration in the Odd Semester.
To be eligible, students must have an annual family income not exceeding Rs 4.5 lakhs from all sources. Academic performance is a key criterion: applicants must maintain a CGPA of 6.00 or above, have earned credits equal to at least 18 times the number of semesters registered (excluding first-year students), and have an SGPA of 6.0 or more in the previous semester.

Additionally, students must have cleared all previous examinations without any backlog or failing grades and must not have been penalised for unfair means or disciplinary issues.
The number of scholarships awarded each year is capped at 25 per cent of the student strength in each branch. If vacancies remain and no wait-listed candidates are available from that branch and year, a combined merit list will be created from all wait-listed candidates of the same academic year, and the remaining scholarships will be allocated accordingly.
For first-year BTech. students, merit is determined based on their All India Rank in the JEE Advanced. Applicants are required to submit a completed application form along with a valid family income certificate issued by authorised officials (Revenue Department, SDM, DC, Tehsildar, etc.), an affidavit, the latest semester grade card, category certificate, and AIR Rank Card (for first-year students).

Under this scheme, students who submit their thesis within one month of the semester’s commencement are exempted from paying the registration fee for that semester. However, if the thesis is submitted after this one-month window, the full registration fee is applicable and non-refundable.

Additionally, research scholars who complete their MS or PhD within the stipulated timeframes—three years for MS and five years for PhD—may be eligible for a scholarship extension based on their supervisor’s recommendation.
PhD scholars can receive up to three months of extended scholarship support, while MS scholars may be granted one month, calculated from the date of thesis submission or defence, whichever occurs earlier. These benefits are specifically available to students receiving the HTRA scholarship
