Opposition party Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) held a protest outside Sir Parshurambhau (SP) college on Thursday against a controversial land deal in the city’s Mundhwa region linked to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar.

Gajanan Tharkude, city chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), told The Indian Express at the protest, “All kinds of scams are going on in the state of Maharashtra and they are all linked to Ajit Dada. This deal is also linked to Ajit Dada’s son Parth Pawar. What is going on in Pune city?”

The deal involves a company linked to Parth Pawar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe in the matter earlier in the day after allegations surfaced. Government sources have said that tehsildar Suryakant Yewale has already been suspended in the matter.

“The land in Mundhwa, if you look at the papers, the taluka is mentioned as Mulshi and the city as Mundhwa. Scams are taking place in this way. This is a Rs 1600 crore scam and it has been given to them on a Rs 500 stamp paper. The public is not safe in Maharashtra. The land was watan land,” Tharkude said.

Raising similar allegations, Aam Aadmi Party leader Vijay Kumbhar posted on X, “A land deal worth ₹300 crore was registered in Mundhwa, Pune. As per the prevailing rate, the stamp duty payable was around ₹21 crore but why was it waived off? Was it because the buyer happens to be the son of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar?”
Responding to the issue, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, ”I will have to  check whether the exemption in stamp duty was given as per the law.  I have ordered a probe to check whether the provisions of the law pertaining to Mahar Watan land has been followed.”

Baramati MP and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule said, “The government should come  clean on this issue whether the deal has taken place or not. First, it was said Rs 21 crore stamp waived has been waived. Was stamp duty paid or not? And now, it is said that Rs 6 crore has been waived. The Maharashtra government is trying to confuse us. The government and the Chief Minister should set the record straight.”
