The funds received will be used for technology research and development as well as for deploying technology (representative image/ file)IIT Madras has launched a new joint Master’s Programme (JMP) on ‘Water Security and Global Change’ in partnership with two German universities – RWTH Aachen (RWTH), and TU Dresden (TUD) and in association with AIT, Bangkok, and UNU-FLORES.

Indian as well as international students with specified engineering backgrounds are eligible to apply for this master’s programme. The classes for the first batch will commence on July 29.
Admission to the programme will be granted to applicants who have received a Bachelor’s or comparable degree which fulfills the following conditions:
— The qualifying degree needs to have a major focus in one of the academic subjects listed below:
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Hydro Science Engineering
Water Resources Engineering
Computational Engineering
Agricultural or Landscape Engineering
— The qualifying degree needs to encompass a minimum workload of 180 ECTS-Points or must have been awarded by a higher education institution officially recognized by at least one of the following institutions: AICTE, AIU, ACU, IAU, Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen.
— The accumulated grade point average of the qualifying degree shall not be below 60 per cent aggregate marks or “first class”.
– Students who have not completed their graduate study in English must pass either of the following recognised English tests.
– IELTS: 6.5 minimum overall, with at least 6.0 in each component
– TOEFL: 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing
The fees at IIT Madras is Rs 36400 per semester, Euros 287 per semester at TUD, Euros 335 per semester at RWTH. Total fees per semester will be 622 Euros + Rs 36400.
Students should remember that medical insurance is inclusive with IITM fees, students need to acquire insurance for the proposed period of stay in Germany. However, accommodation, living and traveling costs are not included in the fees. Students can avail scholarship opportunities available for the same.
Internships and Master thesis will be conducted closely with companies, governmental agencies, and NGOs. The programme will enable the mobility of enrolled students among the three universities, the institute stated in an official press release.
Students will commence the academic year at IIT Madras and spend at least one semester at TUD and RWTH, with the flexibility to execute their Master’s thesis at the University of their choice. This programme will provide students with interdisciplinary research and studies, empowering them with the skills to address water security challenges and climate adaptation realms in a global environment, claimed the release.
