The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) on February 20 held its 37th convocation. The open university conferred over three lakh degrees, diplomas and certificates.
During the convocation ceremony, a total of 3.08 lakh degrees, diplomas and certificates were conferred, with meritorious students being honoured by the Vice President, an official statement said.
The 37th convocation was held at the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre, IGNOU Maidan Garhi Campus. The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar was present as the Chief Guest.
Appreciating the role played by IGNOU in cultivating well-rounded individuals the Vice President commended the institution for its steadfast commitment to fostering equity, inclusivity and excellence in higher education, in alignment with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
The Vice President also discussed the significance of digital infrastructure, advancements in UPI, mobile technology, and initiatives like DPI, stressing the importance of inclusive participation, particularly from the global south, within forums such as the G20.
Encouraging entrepreneurial spirit, he urged the graduates to explore opportunities, establish startups, and lead with innovation, emphasizing that failure is a stepping stone to success in the face of disruptive technologies like IoT, AI, and quantum computing.
The convocation ceremony, held simultaneously at the university’s regional centers nationwide, was broadcasted live on various platforms, including six Swayam Prabha Channels managed by IGNOU, GyanDarshan channel, GyanVani, YouTube and social media channels.
