The revised format mirrors the GSEB Class 10 and Class 12 board 2025 exams. The question paper structure will now comprise 70 per cent descriptive and 30 per cent objective questions.
The change in the GSEB 2025 Class 9 and Class 11 paper pattern seeks to standardise exam patterns across classes and ensure a smoother transition for students progressing to Class 10 and 12 board exams. The updated format will be implemented starting in the 2024 – 2025 academic year and will impacting nearly 15 lakh students, a statement from the board said. The decision seeks to reduce failure rates by providing a more accessible and familiar examination structure.
The proportion of objective questions has risen from 20% to 30%, reducing the descriptive section’s weightage to 70%. Previously, students were able to choose between two questions. Now, they will be presented with five options and can attempt any two or three.
The revised pattern applies to all streams, including science, commerce and general.
For Class 11, the syllabus and sample question papers have already been prepared for core subjects like Gujarati, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, economics, statistics, business administration, psychology, sociology, history, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
However, for Class 9, six subjects — computer studies, music, yoga, health and physical education, agriculture, animal husbandry and dairy science and home science — will retain their current exam format. And, in Class 11, the formats for computer studies, music, yoga and health and physical education remain unchanged.
