The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is set to undergo several changes this year, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.

“Based on feedback from past years, it is also essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient and conducive environment for students taking CUET. In this spirit, the UGC has constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET UG and CUET PG for 2025,” Kumar said.

Kumar also shared a video on the microblogging site, X (formerly known as Twitter), and shared that on December 9 morning, he had a two-hour interaction with students from various degree colleges who cleared CUET UG 2024 to discuss potential changes in the exam pattern. “It was indeed a pleasure to hear their perspectives and feedback,” he added.

He also revealed that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET UG and PG. “The committee has examined various aspects of the test, such as its structure, number of papers, duration of test papers, syllabus alignment and operational logistics. The commission considered these recommendations in a recent meeting,” he added.

Based on the report of this committee and feedback from students, UGC will soon release a draft proposal detailing the revised guidelines for conducting CUET UG and CUET PG 2025, inviting feedback and suggestions from students, parents, teachers and institutions.

Last year, CUET UG saw some major changes — from the format to number of subjects allowed to the difficulty level. In the third edition of the exam, for subjects with higher registration, the test was conducted using OMR sheets instead of the Computer Based Test (CBT) format. Also, the difficulty level of the CUET UG 2024 was kept as moderate to avoid stress among students.

Even after this, with increased registrations, the exam faced a few technical challenges due to which the exam was postponed at Delhi and Faridabad. A similar cancellation took place in one centre of Kanpur where distribution of wrong question paper had sparked controversy. The CUET UG 2024 was conducted between May 15 and 29 and on July 19. Meanwhile, CUET PG exams were conducted between March 11 and March 28.
