NIRF State Rankings 2024: The Education Ministry has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024 on Monday, August 12. This year, the ministry has added three new different criteria to classify Indian universities. Beginning this year, NIRF rankings will also include open universities, skill universities and state-funded government universities. Under the state government universities, this year Anna University, Chennai bagged the first place followed by Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and Calcutta University in the second, third, and fourth places. This year, the evaluation criteria have also been modified. The faculty to student ratio has been changed from 1:15 to 1:10 in medical institutes, and increased from 1:15 to 1:20 in the state government universities. The ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters — teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has grabbed the top spot under the best engineering colleges category. The lineup for the top 5 engineering colleges remained the same with IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur retaining their top four positions respectively, however there was a slight shift in rank five and six. In the NIRF 2024 rankings, IIT Kharagpur has seen a rise from sixth to fifth spot, whereas IIT Roorkee slipped from fifth to sixth spot. IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli have continued to retain their seventh, eighth and ninth spot, followed by IIT BHU Varanasi at the 10th spot — which was last year awarded to Jadavpur University. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has topped in the universities category followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia. Interestingly, the three varsities have continued their dominance from last year and have retained the same spot. Under the dental category, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences grabbed the first rank followed by Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, and King George`s Medical University.
