In another scandal involving Students Federation of India (SFI), a local leader of the CPI(M) student wing had got admission for a post-graduate programme without clearing the degree course.
Nikhil Thomas, an SFI local leader in Alappuzha district, had got admission for M Com course for 2021-23 batch in MSK College, Kayamkulam, an aided college under the University of Kerala, without clearing the B Com exam.
Nikhil was on Monday suspended from the college after the University sought an explanation from the college management. Thomas had been a B Com student at the same college from 2017 to 2020, but failed in the exam. But with a degree certificate from Kalinga University, he got admission for the post-graduate course.
Kerala University V-C Dr Mohan Kunnummal told media that there is serious lapse on the part of the college. “They (college) knew that Nikhil had failed in the BCom exam. Then how the college has given him admission for the MCom course. Nikhil had studied at the college under the University for three years. He had 75 per cent attendance. He sat for the exam, but did not pass. To obtain admission for the M Com course, he had produced a degree certificate issued by Kalinga University in Chhattisgarh. How a person who had 75 per cent attendance in a college in Kerala managed to study in Chhattisgarh during the same period. We will move the police as well as the UGC if Kalinga had issued such a certificate,’’ said Mohan.
Suspending Nikhil, the MSM College management ordered an internal probe into the incident.
