Pune-bsed organisation Anthra will hold a workshop on the poultry industry, focusing on eggs. The workshop Good Agricultural Practices in the Indian Layer Industry is being held in collaboration with Vrutti (Bangalore) and Wageningen (Netherlands).
The workshop will be held at Hotel Sun N Sand here on January 20 and 21.
Despite India ranking fourth in egg production, the per capita egg consumption is low.
It is also because eggs are consumed on a seasonal basis.
Surplus eggs converted to egg powder are a valuable export product. Exports in India are, however, affected by international standards and protocols and understanding these would help the layer industry, said Nithya S Ghogate, representative of Anthra.
According to Ghogate, since September 2009,Wageningen UR (Netherlands),Anthra and Vrutti have been involved in a collaborative study to understand the opportunities and challenges in egg powder production and trade, with respect to good agriculture practices in the Indian layer industry.
