Despite India ranking fourth in egg production,the per capita egg consumption is low.

It is also because eggs are consumed on a seasonal basis.

“Surplus eggs converted to egg powder are a valuable export product. Exports in India are,however,affected by international standards and protocols and understanding these would help the layer industry,” said Nithya S Ghogate,representative of Anthra.

According to Ghogate,since September 2009,Wageningen UR (Netherlands),Anthra and Vrutti have been involved in a collaborative study to understand the opportunities and challenges in egg powder production and trade,with respect to good agriculture practices in the Indian layer industry.
