The University of Pune,(UoP) is all set to shore up its security. The security teams at the university have been checking every vehicle entering the campus from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) gate. The university has been maintaining a record of the vehicles entering the campus from this gate for the past four days,with the aim of limiting the traffic flow. Amay Shinde,a student of one of the affiliated colleges,said,I had come to the campus on Tuesday for some attestation work and was stopped at the IUCAA gate. They took down my vehicle number as well as my mobile number. They also asked me the purpose of my visit. I keep coming to the university for various work but this was the first time that I was checked this thoroughly. A senior official from the university said,The university has been shut for the Diwali vacation. However,even during these days,there is a lot of traffic. There are many people,who at times,just come to the campus without any reason. It is this group of people that we are trying to prevent from entering the premises. Confirming the bracing up of the security at the campus,ML Jadhav,registrar said,The traffic from the IUCAA gate is being monitored. There is a need to control the traffic entering the campus. It is better to be careful and protect our property. Speaking about the initiative,the security officer said,The amount of unnecessary traffic into the campus was increasing. We have started inspecting every vehicle entering the campus. We are taking down the vehicle numbers,address and mobile numbers. If they have a valid reason for going in,we are allowing them to enter. We have started this initiative from the IUCAA gate but might start it on the other gates as well in the next few days.
