Two held,hunt on for main accused

Two days after Rs 8.8 lakh was stolen from the office of a chit fund company in Hadapsar,police arrested an employee of the company and his accomplice and have also recovered the cash from them. Police are yet to arrest another employee of the company who is the prime accused and had forced arrested employee by luring him for a trip to Dubai.

As per the complaint registered by Mundam Parmeshwar,the owner of the company,a bag containing Rs 8.8 lakh in a locked drawer was stolen between Saturday evening and Monday morning when the office was closed. On Monday morning,he found the doors and the drawer had been opened with duplicate keys and the bag with the money missing.

Within 48 hours after the theft came to light,cops arrested two persons in the case – an employee of the company Ditin Dinesh Potraeel (28),a resident of Tupe chawl in Vidyavihar colony in Hadapsar and his friend Rajeev Rohidas Kharat (28),a resident of Mahatma Phule Vasahat in Hadapsar.

Sanjay Jadhav,deputy commissioner of police (Zone IV) said,“As the duplicate keys were used in the theft,we were tracing the link of someone from the office giving the keys for duplicating them. As the inquiries of the suspects was on,one of the constables Fabian Samson found Potraeel’s behavior a bit abnormal. After persistent questioning heconfessed to the crime. We then arrested Kharat and recovered the cash from his house.”

The prime suspect and the master mind behind the case is yet to be arrested. Jadhav said,“We are yet to arrest the prime suspect who is an employee of the same company and had been to Dubai in the past. It was him who lured Potraeel and forced him to get involved.” Police said,to mislead the police in the investigation,the accused had sprinkled red chilli powder all over the office. V T Pawar,assistant commissioner of police Wanawadi division said,“Usually robbers use red chilli powder to harm people. To make us believe that this was done was someone outside,the suspects used this trick. We had even taken samples of red chilli powder from every house we inquired.”
