IMD during the start of the month, had in its forecast talked about a higher number of heat waves and hotter than usual April for the country. KM Hosalikar, former head of IMD’s climate research center welcomed the talk about heat in the society. “This is a welcome move which would see people taking steps to prevent over exposure as well as prevent further heating,” he said. Hosalikar said while the city’s temperature is well within range, heat waves in areas like Jalgaon, Nandurbar and other areas can add to the heat felt effect. “Over the last few days, parts of Maharashtra have been experiencing heat waves. Parts of Vidarbha have reported over 40 degrees on multiple occasions,” he said. Calling for more observations, Hosalikar said this would help determine urban heat islands and other phenomena in the cities. “More observations would help the authorities take preventive measures and help the society better,” he said.
