(Photo: AP) Australian authorities have revealed the identities of the two policemen who were injured in the shooting at Bondi Beach, which killed 16 people. According to the authorities, 42 people were injured in the shootout carried out by the father-son duo of Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram during the Hanukkah By The Sea religious celebrations in Australia’s Sydney.
Out of this, 27 are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals, including the two injured cops, Constable Scott Dyson and probationary constable Jack Hibbert.
According to Australian broadcaster 9 News, Hibbert has undergone surgery on his shoulder and eye at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and may lose sight in that eye.
New South Wales (NSW) Police Association said probationary constable Hibbert had been on the job only for four months.
Dyson had been attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command for 18 months, NSW Police said. He remains in a critical condition at St Vincent’s Hospital.

According to Australian website news.com.au, Constable Dyson found out just days ago that he and his partner, also a NSW police officer, were expecting a child.
“Only found out that he was going to be a Dad last week,” a friend of the injured cop said.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said he has met with the families of the officers.
“Both sets of families are incredibly supportive of the support they are getting from the police family,” Lanyon told 9 News.

The NSW Police Association praised the two injured cops for their bravery.
“These young men who are very junior are absolute heroes in my book, faced with a situation no police officer ever wants to have to face,” acting NSW Police Association boss Ian Allwood told news.com.au.
“These young officers were up against two men with long-arm weapons firing at them from an elevated position; their courage and actions were absolutely incredible,” he added.
According to Allwood, the two officers are battling serious injuries and will face a long road to recovery ahead of them, but added that they will be “supported all the way” by their blue family.

NSW Police also released a statement on behalf of the families of the two officers.
“The families of the two injured officers wish to pass on their thoughts to the loved ones of those who were killed and injured in the Bondi shooting tragedy,” the statement read.
“They also want to express their heartfelt gratitude to all first responders who acted with courage, in particular the police officers and paramedics who responded. They also wish to thank their hospital team, and especially those in ICU.
“They thank the community for their support but have asked for privacy as their loved ones focus on recovery and healing.”
