Open Space will be organising a spoken-word poetry workshop with poet Apphia K on November 3. Under the Free Voices endevour,the day-long event will have the participants writing poems with structures,writing exercises and discussions. It will be followed by an evening performance of the pieces worked on during the day which will be open to anyone interested. Apphia K is a spoken word poet and the founder of Free Voices. She has previously performed at 100 Thousand Poets for change in Pune and featured at Urban Solace in Bangalore. Divided into five sessions,the workshop will cover structure,technique,connotation and performing that one needs to follow while writing poems.

Cultural Collage

City-based organisation,Sadhana Kala Manch, with support from the Pate Gruha Navnirman,is organising two musical programmes on the occasion of their 20th anniversary. The first programme ‘Marathi Rocks’ will be held today at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha at 5 pm. Artistes like Dhavan Chandwadkar (Sa Re Ga Ma),Rama Kulkarni (Gaurav Maharashtracha),Prashant Naseri (Sa Re Ga Ma and Star Voice of India) will be performing at the show. The next day of the event will have a screening of ‘Naman Natwara’ at Happy Colony at 6.30 pm.

Cinemax Cinemas and Hope for the Children Foundation are screening a special show of animated feature film Delhi Safari on November 4. The audience members will include children from the Wadgaonsheri community,and some of of the HIV-affected and orphaned beneficiaries from the foundation. “Cinemax is glad to do such a thing. We will do similar screenings across the country in many other cities where we are present,” says Girish Wankhede,general manager,marketing and PR,Cinemax Pune.

The Young and Restless

Niche Stagekraft will stage Purple Cactus,an emotional drama based on Neil Simon’s play. The script portrays the life of a successful young professional Yameer and his wife,Arushi. However the couple faces some unexpected situations,and the play explores their responses to and their battle against these challenges. Directed by Jitendra R Pawar,Purple Cactus will be staged on November 4 at Nehru Memorial Hall from 630 pm onwards.
