Striking a balance

Thirty participants sat together at the Indraprasth Hall,Senapati Bapat Road,on Saturday evening.

This free yoga session organised by Isha Foundation rejuvenated participants and opened them to the world of ‘inner engineering’

Thirty participants sat together at the Indraprasth Hall,Senapati Bapat Road,on Saturday evening. There was a sense of oneness and an atmosphere of relaxation at this free Isha Kriya sessions organised by the Isha Foundation,a non-profit,non-religious,human service organisation. The gathering comprised disciples of Sadhguru, dedicated volunteers and those interested in this ‘inner engineering’.

Swami Lavitra,a disciple of Sadhguru, took centrestage to give an in-depth instruction on Isha Kriya. This form of yoga involves meditation. As Swami Lavitra delved further into it,the interest of the participants increased. For Isha Kriya,an individual has to dedicate three hours per day for a span of seven consecutive days to learn the proper technique and then perform the yoga for 20-25 minutes every day. In today’s world, where everyone is on the run, dedicating this time for learning Isha Kriya may seem difficult. “Sadhguru has redesigned the teaching technique of Isha Kriya to suit the time concious generation of today. Each session consists of an introduction to Sadhguru and inner engineering through Isha Kriya. This is followed by an audio-visual which has a thought provoking talk by Sadhguru and instuctions on how to perform the yoga,” said Swami Lavitra. The foundation is organising these free sessions across different locations in the city. The sessions are open to anyone above the age of 14 and will be held in schools, government offices, corporate institutions, clubs and homes till November 13.

While Mohan Shingte,a participant at the session on Saturday evening, described it as a wonderful experience,Minu Swarup,a first year micro-biology student, said,”I came to attend this session after a tiring dance class but surprisingly I feel more energetic and light now. I am glad I came.”

After the session, all participants were given an instructional DVD as an encouragement to carry on this practice in their daily lives. “Yoga is a union of the physical body, mental state and energy source. Good health is an additional benefit. The main aim is to maintain inner balance and reorganise one’s energies to enhance oneself as a human being,” said Swami Lavitra, who believes that for a better society, the change needs to start at an individual level.

Self-growth was the motivating factor at the session. “Isha Kriya is a wonderful tool for calmness and improving self-management,” said S Krishnan, vice president,Thermax. Krishnan organised this session for Thermax employees at the office premises on November 4.

Another participant, classical vocalist and musician Sushruti Sauthanam who was introduced to the Isha Foundation by her husband, shared,“When you know how to maintain inner balance, you can go up to a whole new level of efficiency. I have seen the difference in my singing and in the way I manage my home and children.”
