Suniel Shetty recently got teary-eyed during an event for Border 2 as he recalled his son Ahan Shetty’s struggle after his debut film flopped at the box office. In a new interaction, Suniel spoke about the emotional moment and admitted that he becomes a completely different person when it comes to his children.
Speaking to E Times, Suniel admitted that the father in him got the better of him and he became teary-eyed at the Border 2 song launch, he also shared that he doesn’t mind being vulnerable in front of his children, as this is his true self. He shared that during the launch, Ahan put his hand on his back, which made him emotional. “When it comes to your children, I think parents are most vulnerable and become a completely different person,” he said.
Earlier, Suniel had lashed out at trolls and those indulging in negative PR against his son. During the interaction, Suniel admitted that while he takes a back seat and allows Ahan to make his own life decisions and choose the films he wants to do, he will not stay silent if anyone takes a potshot at his son. Calling himself an old-school Shetty boy, he said, “I will not let go. I will take you on. I will take you on the way you want me to take you on, because I am clean and honest and also fearless.” Suniel added that with honesty comes a certain fearlessness.
He also shared that he did not interfere at all during Ahan’s debut film Tadap and did not demand to see even a single frame of Border 2. He revealed that he attended the Border 2 event only because he was invited by the makers. “It’s my son’s film, so it is my film and I will do it,” he said. Suniel also admitted that because of his years of experience in the film industry, he will continue guiding Ahan whenever needed.
During the Border 2 event, Suniel Shetty got emotional and admitted that Ahan struggled after his first film, Tadap, flopped at the box office. He thanked the makers for casting Ahan in Border 2 and said, “After his first film, there was a little break in (his life and career). You know, there’s always turmoil in our lives. Sab bolte hain ke Suniel Shetty ka beta hai kaam toh bahut hi milta hai (Everyone thinks that he is Suniel Shetty’s son and he would have got a lot of work). But somewhere or the other, there’s a lot that Ahan went through in life. But I am happy that he got Border 2 as his second film. Usse badiya film nahi mil sakti (He couldn’t have gotten a better film than that). And I just pray that he has done justice and the film works for all of us.”
Border 2 also stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan in lead roles. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and is the sequel to JP Dutta’s multi-starrer 1997 blockbuster Border, which featured Suniel Shetty in a pivotal role.
