A Delhi businessman died after his scooter hit the door of a parked mini truck in Mangolpuri, causing him to fall onto the road.
A 55-year-old businessman died as he was run over by a truck in Northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri Industrial Area after his scooter collided with the door of a parked mini truck, police said.
The deceased was identified as Gyan Chand, a resident of Rishi Nagar in Northwest Delhi’s Rani Bagh, officers added.
The matter came to light on Tuesday after a call from Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura was received at Mangol Puri police station informing that a person was brought dead by his brother, officers said.
The statement of Sovind Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased and resident of Sultan Puri, was recorded by the police. “Kumar stated that Chand was on his way to a factory in Mangol Puri Industrial Area Phase-II on his scooter when the accident occurred,” officers said.
As per Kumar’s statement, a Tata Ace vehicle was parked in front of the factory gate, police said.
On how the accident happened, an officer said, “When the driver of the mini truck suddenly opened the door, the scooter collided with it, causing the rider to lose balance and fall on the road. At that moment, a truck approaching from behind allegedly ran over the victim, resulting in fatal injuries.”
The truck driver has been arrested while the truck has been seized, officers said.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Mangol Puri police station. Police said that efforts are underway to trace the driver of the Tata Ace vehicle. Further investigation is in progress.
