Sitar player Pt Shashank Katti aims to help popularise the importance of music therapy through his upcoming lecture demonstration.
Every individual responds differently to every ‘sur’ and ‘raag’. Similarly two patients suffering from arthritis may need different musical notes to help them heal, says A-grade national sitar player Pandit Shashank Katti,on the subject of music therapy. A pioneer of Sur Sanjeevan Music Therapy Katti has been working on the subject of ‘Music Therapy’ along with his team of four doctors for over a decade. He will be demonstrating the same techniques at a free lecture demonstration on Saturday,May 19,at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Shaniwar Peth.
Katti says that the therapy is classified into four categories- Indian classical music, the Principles of Ayurveda,Theory of mood elevation and Modern inventions. This therapy works with ‘Sur’ and ‘notes’ which is used during the sessions. “My guru inspired me to create Sur Sanjeevan and thanks to his blessings today I am helping many people heal through music, he says.
The music therapy sessions starts with the diagnosis of the ailment followed by the procedure to find the Raag or Sur needed to work on the problem. Identifying the Ayurveda Doshas along with the team of doctors he then proceeds to find out the sur and notes for the patient. A team of four doctors Dr Shubhangi S.Dhage (gynec),Dr. Himalaya Pantavaidya,Dr. Sanjay P Chhajed and Jui Tembhekar will be participating n the lecture demonstration along with him. The Sur Sanjeevan Music Therapy Trust that is run by him will be conducting certificate courses in music therapy from June in the city.
