Indian choreographers are making their presence felt on the international arena in a big way. After Farah Khan made Shakira move to her steps at the MTV Video Music Awards,it is now Pune boy choreographer Sandip Soparrkar’s turn. Soparrkar has received a nomination in the Music Video Choreography category of the American Choreography Awards for his work in the video for Britney Spears’ hit Womanizer single. Keeping the Mumbai-based choreographer company are the likes of Frank Gatson and JaQuel Knight for Beyonce’s Single Ladies video,Khalid Alexander McBennett for Lady GaGa’s Poker Face and Fatima Robinson (Whitney Houston’s I Look To You). This is the fifth consecutive year for the awards ceremony and the main event will be held at New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion on October 17.

Fit for life
In view of the H1N1 flu pandemonium spread across the length and breadth of the city,the Phoenix Sports Academy had organised a fitness run on September 10 from Shahu College to Parvati. The Fitness Kills the Illness run saw participants in the age-group of five to 60 years participate. Millind Kulkarni of Phoenix Sports Academy says,“The main aim of the run was to educate people about the precautions to be taken to combat the virus. We feel that be it any age-group,the best way to combat the disease is by having a sound and healthy body and the best way to achieve this is by exercising. This was the message that we were trying to promote through the run.” The total distance of the run was six kilometers and about 65 people participated in the event.


The Poonawala Multimillion Race received a great response from an enthusiastic audience in the city yesterday. With the panic over swine flu decreasing,the number of enthusiasts increased and a crowd of about 8000 people enjoyed the most-awaited event of the racing season. Sea Ruler jockeyed by Imran Chisty emerged as the winner after beating Cabriolet,Mighty Crusader,Native Knight. Chisty received a sum of Rs 13.36 lakh along with the trophy. A contest named Contest of Skill was held for the audience where they had to nominate the first four winners. Out of the huge crowd,36 people guessed right and received attractive prizes like a Maruti car,a motor cycle,LCD television,home theatre and cell phones.
