On a melodious note
Well-known flautist Pandit Rajendra Kulkarni will be performing at a programme organised by Parvati Nagati Kruti Samiti on October 21 at 6 pm. He will be accompanied by Avinash Patil on the tabla. The Parvati Nagati Kruti Samiti will also felicitate Pandit Kulkarni with the Parvati Punyabhushan Award. The Parvati Bhushan will be awarded to Avinash Patil. The programme will be held at Udyan Prasad Karyalaya,Sadashiv Peth,and is open to all.
Inspiring sounds
Recently,Amitabh Bachchan launched the soundtrack for the Anant Mahadevan-directed film Mee Sindhutai Sapkal. This film revolves around the life of Sindhutai Sapkal,a social worker based in Pune. Produced by Sachin and Bindiya Khanolkar,the film is slated for a November 5 release and will have its world premiere at the 54 th London Film Festival.

Janhavi’s Jewellers recently unveiled a new range of designer mangalsutras called ‘The Mangal Collection’. Launched at the hands of Marathi actress Sonali Kulkarni of Natarang fame and Mangala Kaigaonkar,the collection boasts of Mangalsutra pendants made of diamonds,coloured gems and precious stones set in gold. Also,coloured stones have been used for the strings instead of the traditional black beads so as to give the collection a fresh and stylish look.

The Poonawala Gallery at Camp,has displayed paintings of four Pune-based artists,each one pursuing different techniques of art. Abbas Poonawalla,owner of the gallery,says,Each painting displayed will please the art lovers of the city. While Machcha Gangadas does cosmic energy paintings,Dilip Pandit and Anil Phalke do figures. Sachin Waghmode’s art,on the other hand,is abstract. Machcha Gangadas,who has been a landscape artist for 35 years,says,While doing my landscape paintings,something just flashed before me and I realised it is the combination of the five elements of nature that assist us in all our work. Thus I introduced the concept of cosmic energy art. Gangadas has shown the movement of electrons,vibrations and frequencies by way of thick and thin lines,freely moving and crossing each other. The exhibition will be on till October 30.
