Short Crop

Youngsters get ready for their holidays with trendy and hassle-free hairstyles this summer

Youngsters get ready for their holidays with trendy and hassle-free hairstyles this summer

Seventeen-year-old Rushabh Sanghvi loves long hair. But taming it in the sultry summer is a game he would much rather not play. A hectic routine that includes juggling between college, tuition and friends leaves Sanghvi with practically no time to care for his mane. After much thought,Sanghvi recently walked into a salon and discussed his hair concerns with stylist Sailesh Mistry, senior at B:Blunt Mini,Koregaon Park.

Mistry’s simple suggestion was to crop it short and now Sanghvi looks dapper with the classic square cut. “The best way to maintain healthy hair is to keep it short. The less hair you have, the less dirt and grime will accumulate and the less you will have to take care of it. You will need less shampoo, conditioner and styling products, which is a relief for your wallet as well,” says Mistry. He emphasises that the sharp and clean look is the best way to deal with the heat.

To convince Sanghvi,Mistry had explained,“We will buzz the sides and leave a little length on the top so you can style it the way you want.” He adds,“I always suggest easy-to-maintain hairstyles for my young clients so that they should not have any difficulty in styling their hair at home.” After 20 minutes of snipping and carefully shaping the edges,Mistry was certain his concerned client would thank him for a hassle-free life.

Dharini Turakhia, owner of Fahrenheit Salon,Aundh, says the asymmetrical bob cut is in vogue. “Short is in,and we recommend it too. High on the nape and long near the face is in trend. Some may feel that short hair wouldn’t suit their face but it’s a myth. Our stylist modifies the haircut to suit the face structure. In case of round faces, the hair is kept below chin level near the face and straightened, whereas oval faces can flaunt any hairstyle with ease,” she says.

But for the girls who just cannot bear to part with their long hair, the answer is the pony tail and some serum. For 22-year-old Vasundhara Anand, shortening the length of her hair is out of the question. She doesn’t mind splurging on expensive hair serums and treatments to keep her hair beautiful but when she needs to beat the heat, she sweeps her hair into a neat ponytail. “It’s too hot to leave my hair open. You will always find me tying my hair up in a ponytail. It is the best way to keep hair off your face and secure it nicely. There are a range of cute hair bands available in the market that you can accessorise your pony tail with,” says Anand,an event-management student at College of Events and Media,Pune. For other girls who also can’t think of chopping their locks,Anand’s advice is to cover their heads with a stylish scarf when they travel.

Serum seems to be Akansha Sapre’s best friend this summer. The 21-year-old scrunches her hair with oodles of serum before she leaves home. “Serum makes my hair tangle free all day long. It also protects my hair from the sun and gives it a nice bounce,” says Sapre, who has opted for a layered feather cut this season. She adds that the layers give her hairstyle a dimension, otherwise it just falls flat. “I have chemically straightened my hair,so the hairstyle sets perfectly,” she says.
