At a time when sexual abuse against children are on the rise,Swadhaar,an NGO,is coming up with a workbook that will act as a guide to children — telling them how to deal with sexual abuse and to identify the ‘good from the bad touch’. The book,My Safety, will be released on Friday at a function in Niwara.

Swadhaar is also planning to train teachers in April and educate parents and school management to be vigilant.

Says Suchitra Date, one of the founder members of the NGO and a school counselor,“a survey done in Chennai by Tulir organisation showed that out of 2,211 children,at least 405 boys and 534 girls were sexually abused. Again, out of these a total of 179 boys and 146 girls faced severe sexual abuse.”

“While strangers abusing the children amounted to only 10 per cent,it was family acquaintances who were the main culprits,” says Date.

This workbook will be given free of cost to the teachers who will be trained by the NGO. We also aim to sensitise school managements on how to prevent and tackle such cases of child sexual abuse, says Date. Eminent personality Mohan Agashe will release the workbook.
